1978 Formula 1 champion Mario Andretti spoke about how he sees the ideal lineup of his F1 team.


The project to create a new team in Formula 1 is being carried out by Mario`s son, former IndyCar and F1 driver Michael Andretti. The team has not yet received FIA approval, and series boss Stefano Domenicali said there was no need for new teams.


At the same time, Michael stated in a recent interview that the application could be approved in the very near future. Mario Andretti did not rule out the option of inviting Fernando Alonso to Andretti.


This is quite possible, of course. His experience would be of invaluable help to us. So we will definitely explore this possibility. It seems to me that Fernando is not going to end his career and wants to continue racing. And he`s still in great shape.


Another pilot we would invite with a 99 percent chance is Colton Herta. But he will need an experienced partner. Such a lineup of pilots would make the team more complete. These plans are currently being discussed.


The main goal is to get a very experienced driver to pair with a young talent, and to have at least one American driver in the lineup, Andretti said.
