Dominic Thiem explained how he felt after announcing his retirement.
The Austrian previously said he would retire from tennis at the end of the 2024 season.


I`ve had an amazing career. I have always been passionate about it and given it my all. But since I said I was retiring, I`ve been very happy because I`ve gotten rid of a lot of stress.


I`m looking forward to playing in the last few tournaments and everything that comes after. I`m trying to enjoy the last few months as much as possible.


It`s a very emotional year because Diego [Schwartzman] and I announced our retirement, Rafa [Nadal] and Andy [Murray] are also close to retiring and it`s very emotional.


And despite this, there are players from the previous generation who still play amazing tennis. The new generation is also wonderful. Now there are two players who have already been on the first line of the ranking - [Yannick] Sinner and [Carlos] Alcaraz. They are amazing and play great tennis. I love watching their matches prediction by football predictions - I think like all fans. So tennis is in very good hands.


Luckily, I was seriously injured for the first time three years ago. I was lucky before. Rafa and Juan Martin del Potro were injured very early. I was inspired by how they came back so many times. I also tried my best.


I think the most important thing is that a lot of kids started playing tennis because of me, I hope. Especially in Austria, where I am best known because it is my home country. This would be the most important legacy.


I also want to believe that I will be remembered as a good person on tour who people enjoyed playing. This is also important. I hope my legacy will be good.


I received a lot of messages [after announcing my retirement]. Even those with whom I was not closely acquainted wrote - but they asked other players for my number and sent absolutely amazing messages. Each one made me feel happy.
